Super Mario 3D Land plays like any normal Super Mario game, despite its gorgeous graphics and sleek character and level designs. Basically, Miyamoto took the best elements of all the Super Mario game adaptations to come up with this masterpiece which he describes as a 3 dimensional Mario reincarnation with and old school 3 dimensional side-scroller feel. IGN gave it a 9.5 out of 10, saying “3D gaming has never been fully realized before this.”
The usual power-ups are available, Super Mushroom for growth, Fire Flower for fire power, and Starman for limited invincibility, making the gameplay as addictive as it had been in the first version of the game. Other power-ups included in this version of the game are those featured from earlier Mario titles such as Super Leaf from Super Mario Bros. 3 which turns Mario into Tanooki Mario, Statue Leaf which turns Mario into a statue, and Boomerang Flower which enables Mario to throw boomerangs, among other yet exciting items.
